About Dr. Laura Corominas

I lead the Paediatric and Adolescent Foot and Ankle Unit at Hospital Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona, with more than 16 years of specialised dedication to the diagnosis and treatment of foot conditions and deformities in childhood and adolescence.

My clinical work focuses especially on congenital malformations and complex foot deformities, including clubfoot, vertical talus, polydactyly, hallux varus, hallux valgus, flatfoot, tarsal coalitions, cavus foot and other foot deformities. I also have specialised experience in the management of the neurological foot and of foot problems associated with neuromuscular disorders.

• Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, Barcelona (since 2020). Consultant in charge of paediatric foot and ankle in the Lower Limb Unit, with public and private practice.
• Hospital Universitario Son Espases, Palma (10 years). Paediatric orthopaedics; I coordinated the neuromuscular unit.
• University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, USA (1 year). Placement dedicated to clubfoot treatment with the Ponseti method alongside Dr. Morcuende, to foot and ankle surgery and to neuromuscular conditions.
• Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, USA (6 months). Fellow in neuromuscular conditions.

Education

• MD, PhD cum laude, Universitat de les Illes Balears (2014). My thesis studied rebound growth after hemiepiphysiodesis, with an FIS grant from the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (2011–2013).
• Master’s degree in Rare Diseases, Universitat de València (2019).
• Advanced Course in Paediatric Orthopaedics (2018–2020).
• BEOFAA Online Foot & Ankle Fellowship (2024–2025).

Research

I have published more than 20 articles in international journals such as The Bone & Joint Journal, Foot and Ankle Surgery, Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics and Acta Orthopaedica Belgica. I was a member of the musculoskeletal diseases research group at IdISBa (2012–2018) and I am a researcher in the Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology group of the Institut de Recerca Sant Joan de Déu (IRSJD).

Outside the clinic

I enjoy spending time with my family, running, yoga, reading, cinema, the mountains, the beach and painting. As a mother, I understand first-hand how worried parents can be, and I take the time needed to explain every diagnosis and every treatment.
